Die Umsetzung von drei Pilotinitiativen des UNDP-Projekts „Belarus: Förderung des grünen Städtebaus in kleinen und kleineren Städten“ („Grüne Städte“) in den Jahren 2016-2021 lässt die CO2-Emissionen um mehr als 90 000 Tonnen reduzieren. Das gab die Projektleiterin, Irina Usowa, vor Journalisten im Pressezentrum der Nachrichtenagentur BelTA bekannt.
Die Bedeutung des Themas zur nachhaltigen Stadt- und Siedlungsentwicklung wird durch die Aufnahme eines eigenständigen Ziels (Nr. 11) in die globale Agenda für nachhaltige Entwicklung unterstrichen. Es sieht vor, „Städte und Siedlungen inklusiv, sicher, widerstandsfähig und nachhaltig zu gestalten“. Auf die Erreichung dieses Ziels zielt die Arbeit des UNDP-Projektes „Belarus: Förderung des grünen Städtebaus in kleinen und kleineren Städten“ ab, das durch die Globale Umweltfazilität finanziert und gemeinsam mit dem Ministerium für Naturressourcen und Umweltschutz 2016-2021 umgesetzt wird.
Eine der Hauptkomponenten des Projekts ist die Umsetzung von Pilotprojekten für nachhaltige städtische Verkehrsmittel in Polozk und Nowopolozk sowie von Energieeffizienzmaßnahmen in Nowogrudok. Es wird erwartet, dass ihr Ergebnis eine direkte Gesamtreduktion der CO2-Emissionen um 91,1 Tausend Tonnen über die Jahre des Projekts sein wird.
