Cooperation between the CIS, SCO and BRICS is very important in resisting the pressure of the collective West, CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev told the media, BelTA has learned.
Sergei Lebedev called the interaction between the CIS and such associations as the SCO and BRICS progressive. “We are deepening this interaction, trying to find new points of contact, and we also meet regularly,” the secretary general said. “Just now, as CIS Secretary General, I participated in a meeting of the SCO Heads of Government council and met with SCO Secretary General Zhang Ming. More recently, in September, the chiefs of staff of the three organizations - the CIS, the SCO and the CSTO - met in Beijing. It was a very productive meeting, and new agreements were reached on participation in many events organized by each structure. These are humanitarian events, various festivals. They invite us, and we will gladly attend these forums. We also invite representatives of the SCO countries to our events. There are also joint military exercises of the SCO, CSTO, CIS countries, as well as anti-terrorist exercises not only of the armed forces, but also of anti-terrorist units.”
According to him, all this contributes to the strengthening of interaction. “In the current situation, the interaction of these structures is vital in resisting the pressure exerted on us by the collective West, and not only on the CIS, but also on the SCO countries,” Sergei Lebedev noted. “Therefore, we need to stand together, to coordinate our activities. We need to give a collective response to the attacks and pressure exerted on us by the collective West.”
The CIS plenipotentiaries are holding a meeting at the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk on 31 October. The plenipotentiaries are set to discuss the preparations for the 29th Minsk International Film Festival Listapad, will hear information on the activities of the CIS Coordination Council of Heads of Tax (Financial) Investigation Bodies in 2015-2023. The meeting is also set to take stock of the CIS Heads of State, Heads of Government Foreign Ministers Councils meetings in Bishkek. The CIS plenipotentiaries are also expected to consider issues related to interdepartmental consultations on the problems of ensuring international information security in the CIS, deepening cooperation between the CIS Executive Committee and the Eurasian Economic Commission, and aligning the legal bases of the EAEU and the CIS.
