The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), with the support of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, the Local Social Fund “Dobra”, the Republican Association of Wheelchair Users, Flo Health and EVACLINIC launched the Byazmezhnaya project. The main goal is to remind women of the importance of reproductive health and provide equal opportunities for self-care for everyone, including women with disabilities.
A massive crowdfunding campaign is part of the project. The gathered funds will be used to purchase a gynecological chair, adapted for the needs of women with disabilities. Anna Levdanskaya-Witt, communications specialist at UNFPA, spoke about the Byazmezhnaya project itself and its main goals (audio).
There are more than 1 billion people worldwide with some form of disability today. In the Republic of Belarus their number exceeds 570,000. Therefore, one of the key audiences of the project were women with disabilities who constantly face barriers in accessing various services, like sexual and reproductive health. The reasons are lack of medical equipment adapted for the needs of people with disabilities, lack of qualification, lack of relevant knowledge among medical personnel, and stereotypical attitude of society to the health of people with disabilities and their needs.
One of the UNFPA partners in this project was a resident of the High-Tech Park, a developer of a mobile application for women's health Flo. Upon completion of the Byazmezhnaya project, Flo Health will transfer the amount collected as part of the crowdfunding campaign to the project account. Funds from Flo Health will be transferred to the Republican Association of Wheelchair Users for the purchase of a special gynecological chair for the Brest Regional Maternity Hospital.
It is worth noting that the Flo app was ranked as one of the most popular health and fitness apps worldwide. The ranking was published at Sensor Tower platform. Ekaterina Romanovskaya, Flo Health Brand and Communications Deputy Director, commented for Radio Belarus on what makes Flo such a popular and beloved by users around the world, and how important it is to take care of yourself and your reproductive health (audio).
You can support the project until October 12. The project organizers also prepared open meetings with experts for all interested women.
