Belarus President's meeting with US Secretary of State (audio)

President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko held a meeting with US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo during the latter's visit to Minsk.

Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out he was happy to see the US official in Belarus, as Mike Pompeo is considered to be one of the architects of modern US politics. The Belarusian President also pointed out he appreciated Pompeo's venturing to visit Minsk after all the groundless misunderstandings of the past to see Belarus and its people for himself:

"Certainly, in just one day you will not be able to look into everything. But as a first approximation, you will get acquainted with Belarus. I'd like to emphasize that Belarus is an absolutely peace-loving country with peace-loving people. This is thanks not only to our mentality, but also the history that the Belarusian people have experienced. Especially during, by the way, our joint struggle against fascism. Every third Belarusian in that the war died. This speaks for itself. The whole country was covered in concentration camps, Jewish ghettos. So, both the mentality and the history of our nation helped determine our peace-loving nature. And I do believe that even though your stay here is very short you will be able ti feel it."

Aleksandr Lukashenko also pointed out that he knew the US official even before meeting him in person in his previous capacity as head of CIA, when Belarus and that agency cooperated in certain matters.

In turn, Mike Pompeo announced that a US Ambassador will shortly arrive in Belaus to help promote bilateral relations across a variety of areas. Among other things, the State Secretary mentioned that United States do not intend to pressure Belarus into abandoning its allied relations with Russia.

I recently learned my surname is not Polish, but Belarusian. I heard you on shortwave in the past and am so happy to listen online in English. We hear nothing about Belarus here in the US so I am so glad to learn about your country. Keep on broadcasting in English. I also joined the Hoererklub on Facebook as I can understand German. If you have information or a station pennant, I will very much appreciate it.
