Belarus intends to start importing oil via Baltic or Ukrainian ports by the end of 2019 as an alternative to Russian oil. The statement was made by Deputy Director General for Commerce of Belarusian Oil Company Sergei Grib on the sidelines of the seminar-conference on exporting products of the Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim to the European Union. In his words, the final decision on the alternative oil import route will depend on the transshipment and transportation terms Belarus’ neighbors will offer. It's going to be either Baltic Sea ports or Odessa or a combination of both. Sergei Grib added that Ukraine and Baltic countries are interested in getting more oil to flow via their ports. The executive specified that Belarusian oil refineries can process 18 oil varieties. In particular, they can process oil from Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria. He did not specify what import options were being discussed.
Sergei Grib also stated that that while searching for terminals in the Baltic states, Belarus will bear in mind the ability to import oil by sea:
We are continuously working with the sea ports of Latvia and Lithuania. The availability of oil import infrastructure will be the main important factor as we make a decision to acquire a seaport terminal. Buying seaport assets is on the agenda as the country is looking for oil import alternative routes after the tax maneuver in Russia. This issue is always on the agenda. Everything will depend on the terms and conditions that our partners from the Baltic countries will offer us. We are talking about the amount of 200,000-300,000 tonnes per month.

I recently learned my surname is not Polish, but Belarusian. I heard you on shortwave in the past and am so happy to listen online in English. We hear nothing about Belarus here in the US so I am so glad to learn about your country. Keep on broadcasting in English. I also joined the Hoererklub on Facebook as I can understand German. If you have information or a station pennant, I will very much appreciate it.
