CIS IPA sends 60 observers for presidential election in Belarus

Belarus’ Central Election Commission has accredited more than 60 observers from the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (CIS IPA). Among them are representatives of the parliaments of the CIS member states. The group also includes officials of the IPA and experts of the CIS IPA International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, BelTA learned from the CIS IPA.

Konstantin Kosachev, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, was appointed the group's coordinator.

In the run-up to the election, the observers will hold meetings with the speakers of the Belarusian Parliament, the leadership of the election administration bodies, candidates and their authorized representatives. On 26 January, the CIS IPA observers will visit polling stations in Minsk and in all regions of the country.

International observers from the CIS IPA are taking part in the monitoring of the presidential election at the invitation of Natalya Kochanova, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic, and Igor Sergeyenko, Chairperson of the House of Representatives.

As part of the long-term monitoring of the election campaign, the observers held meetings with the leadership of the Central Election Commission of Belarus, with candidates and representatives of the parties' campaign teams.
