Maiden rapeseed meal export deal made at Belarusian commodity exchange

The line-up of Belarusian feeds and feed additives supplied abroad through Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange has a new position, namely rapeseed meal, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE).
The volume of the first export transaction was 200 tonnes, and the buyer was a distributor of feeds for feed mills from Novgorod Oblast of Russia.

Fodder and feed additives, along with meat and dairy products, are one of the most popular items on the BUCE export line-up. In January-November 2024 the amount of transactions in this commodity group reached $56 million, up by 32% year-on-year. The most popular commodities among BUCE foreign participants are rapeseed oil, beet pulp and molasses, amino acids, premixes and wheat gluten. The key markets include Russia, China and other countries.

As for rapeseed meal, until now it was sold solely domestically. The first export deal is a practical result of the effort to expand cooperation between the BUCE and domestic oil-extraction enterprises. “The record rapeseed harvest in 2024 has created favorable conditions for increasing supplies of its processed products abroad, and Belarusian exporters are using this opportunity, including by actively using the exchange mechanism,” the press service said.

Founded in 2004, the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange conducted its first trading session in June 2005. BUCE is one of the largest commodity exchanges in Eastern Europe. Its main function is to assist Belarusian enterprises with export and foreign companies with entering the Belarusian market. BUCE sells a wide range of metal, forestry and agricultural products, industrial and consumer goods.

According to the BUCE, in January-November 2024 the structure of exports of feed and feed additives was dominated by the products of Belarusian National Biotechnology Corporation, about 64% in value terms. Sales leaders were amino acids: L-lysine sulfate, L-lysine monohydrochloride, L-threonine and L-tryptophan.
