Iran hopes to intensify economic cooperation with Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Belarus Alireza Sanei said at a solemn event on the occasion of Iran's public holiday on 9 February, BelTA has learned.
“Recent trends in the world show that the international system is shifting from unipolarity to multipolarity, from unilateralism to multilateralism. Undoubtedly, during this transitional stage, a quantitative and qualitative increase in cooperation and positive and meaningful interaction between such independent countries as Iran and Belarus is an unavoidable need in order to reconsider their roles and positions in the new international system,” the diplomat said.
“The presidents of Iran and Belarus require to maximize the development of bilateral relations in all areas: political, economic, cultural, parliamentary, scientific, technological, military and others. On this basis, the positive and meaningful cooperation between the two countries has become more intensive. In 2023, the cooperation between Iran and Belarus showed remarkable progress. Last year, trade between the countries surged by about 40%. Judging by the plans, we will see even higher growth in 2024,” the ambassador highlighted.
“In 2023, the important events in the bilateral relations featured the visit of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to Iran in March, the visit of Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber to Minsk, the 16th meeting of the joint commission on economic cooperation, the 6th round of political consultations between countries, an exhibition of Iranian export goods in Belarus, and mutual visits of other officials of two countries,” Ambassador Alireza Sanei said.
“Moreover, Belarus and Iran held consultations and cooperated on a mutually beneficial basis in regional and international organizations and supported each other's positions,” he added.
