Belarusfilm to release digital movies in 2013

Starting from 2013 all the movies released by the national movie studio Belarusfilm will be available in a digital format, Director General of the movie studio Oleg Silvanovich told reporters:
“ In 2012 Belarusfilm switched to digital movie-making technologies and stopped using celluloid film that had been the symbol of the movie studio and the entire cinematography for a long time.
Starting from 2013 all the movies released by Belarusfilm will be available in digital formats – a DCP format and on Blu-Ray disks.
The digital format has a very high resolution; therefore, the transition to this format adds a lot of extra details to movie shots. These unnecessary details have to be mixed and movie scripts have to be adjusted if movies are meant for cinema viewing”
At present Belarusfilm is a vertically integrated company with a complete movie-making cycle. The company can release up to 15 feature movies, 40 documentaries and 10 cartoons per year. In 2012 the movie studio finished the work on 24 documentary movies and nine cartoons.
