Belarusian construction companies should focus the bulk of their efforts on building up their export potential, Irina Arkhipova, First Deputy Architecture and Construction Minister of Belarus told media.
The official said that the lower output and labor productivity witnessed in the Belarusian civil engineering industry this year was, to a certain degree, caused by the lower domestic demand, the optimized financing of state programs, and the reduction of state budget spending on these purposes. “Therefore, the builders now have to compensate for the lack of work by providing construction services abroad. To do it, subcontractors are working hard to penetrate neighboring construction markets and Latin America, which still is a priority area,” she said.
To increase the export of services, the corporations run by the Architecture and Construction Ministry have signed contracts to provide $100 million worth of construction, architecture, and engineering services in 2012 and have made arrangements worth over $60 million.
