Belarus economy unharmed by globalization

      The Belarusian government has managed to preserve its economy in globalization conditions. The opinion was voiced by Mr Vladimir Menshikov, professor, Doctor of Sociology, Dean of the Social Sciences Department of the Daugavpils University, Latvia. Vladimir Menshikov took part in the international scientific and practical conference Social and Economic Development of Organizations and Regions in Belarus: Sustainability, Development, Innovations. The conference took place in the Vitebsk State Technological University.
      “In globalization conditions when the fight for resources – raw materials, workforce, and intellectual resources – gets tough, the authorities have to raise the quality of life regardless of what economic or political systems the state adheres to,” the scientist is convinced. Vladimir Menshikov spoke in positive terms about efforts of the Belarusian government aimed at protecting interests of the domestic economy and improving living standards. “Unlike Latvia Belarus has managed to preserve its banking system, develops the higher education system, preserves strategic branches of the economy. The lack of the depressive mood in the society is one of the results,” said the professor.
      “Meanwhile, the country’s economy is an open one. You don’t have to research it, going shopping will suffice. The choice of industrial goods and food is huge, Belarus-made goods and imports alike. There was nothing like that ten years ago,” said Vladimir Menshikov, who often visits Belarus.
