Sergeyenko: Key priorities of Belarus’ legal policy remain unchanged

The key priorities of Belarus’ legal policy, which are to ensure sovereignty and security, remain unchanged, Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeyenko said at the meeting of the first session of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the eighth convocation on 3 April, BelTA has learned.

The MPs continue the formation of the working bodies of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the eighth convocation.

“Today is an important day as we need to elect chairpersons of standing committees. This is a matter of organizing an effective working process in the House of Representatives, aimed at addressing the tasks set by the head of state,” the speaker said.

“The key priorities of our legal policy, which are to ensure sovereignty and security, effective economy and balanced social welfare policy, remain unchanged,” Igor Sergeyenko said.

“It is important to focus not on the number of laws adopted but on the creation of optimal conditions for the peaceful and dynamic development of all spheres of life of the state and society. Here, we must firmly rely on the established tradition of popular lawmaking, feel the pulse of society and be in the thick of things. This will enable us to more actively involve citizens in the process of making major state decisions,” the speaker added.
