In presence of about 30,000 fans the Belarusian national football team lost a home match of the World Cup 2014 qualification to the World and European champions team Spain with the score 0:4.
12 minutes into the game Jordi Alba finally put the visitors in front. Nine minutes had elapsed when Pedro Rodriguez doubled Spain’s lead. The next 45 minutes also belonged to Vicente del Bosque’s side with Pedro Rodriguez making a quick-fire second-half double in the 69th and 72nd minutes.
At the press conference after the match head coach of team Belarus Georgiy Kondratiev expressed dissatisfaction with the result, but noted that it was hard to oppose team Spain:
“Of course, 0:4 is a very discouraging result, but the level of teams is incomparable. Spain did not give Belarus even the slightest chance of getting something from the game. They controlled the ball during the whole match. Spain always play high-speed football, their players move around quickly and possess great mental abilities so it is still difficult for Belarus to play against such a team.
Unlike, Spain, team Georgia are of our level, and what we have to do now is to get ready for the match and make some changes both in tactics and in line-ups. We have suffered three defeats and we will do our best to celebrate the first win in the qualifying tournament.
I want to thank our fans for the great support. But we shouldn’t get upset. We should believe in the team. We will try to bring joy to our fans next time”. In the other group I match Finland salvaged a 1:1 draw against Georgia at the Olympic stadium, Helsinki. Georgia’s Guram Kashia broke the deadlock in the 56th minute with a quick 63rd-minute reply from Kasper Hamalainen.
