A retrospective review of German movies will be arranged at the international cinema festival Listapad that will take place in Minsk on 2-9 November, the festival’s press service told media.
The retrospective is an attempt to collectively portray the culture and history of Germany as viewed by the country’s most prominent movie directors of recent years such as Christian Petzold, Dominik Graf, Christoph Hochhausler, Leander Haussmann, and Hans Weingartner.
As part of the retrospective Minsk viewers will be able to watch the movie Despair directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder. The movie was restored in 2011. It is a screen adaptation of Vladimir Nabokov’s novel Despair. The movie’s star Andrea Ferreol is expected to arrive in Minsk to present the movie.
Another movie Dreileben is an experimental trilogy created by three different directors. The movies tell the story of three different lives connected by one event – an escape of a maniac from prison.
Leander Haussmann’s adventure comedy Hotel Lux reflects the dramatic period in the history of the 20th century – the signing of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact – and masterfully recreates the ominous decor of Stalin’s Moscow in the spirit of an adventure action movie, farce, eccentricity, and cabaret.
The retrospective of German movies has been organized in association with the Goethe Institute in Minsk.
