       The Union State of Belarus and Russia has always paid close attention to large-scale historical events and will continue doing so, State Secretary of the Union State Grigory Rapota said during a ceremony to unveil a monument to heroes of the battles of the year 1812 in the town of Krasny, Smolensk Oblast, Russia.
       According to Grigory Rapota, a monument dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the great battle won by Russian Emperor Peter I was unveiled near the village of Lesnaya in Belarus in 2007.
The Union State budget has also assisted with the reconstruction of the Brest Fortress and the shooting of the feature film Brest Fortress. A colorful guidebook Polotsk-Smolensk: Common Destiny Milestones has been published. An extensive fundamental edition to cover the fight of the Belarusians and the Russians against the Napoleon troops is in the pipeline.
       There are plans to erect ten commemorative signs such as monuments and bas-reliefs in memory of Belarusian and Russian soldiers. The monuments will be placed in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, the Transdniestria, and Switzerland. It testifies to the attention that the European community attaches to this event, he said.
