NBRB vows limited support for liquidity of commercial banks

        The National Bank of Belarus will continue supporting the liquidity of banks in very limited amounts, Chairwoman of the Board of the NBRB Nadezhda Yermakova told media.
Asked whether the National Bank will continue supporting the liquidity of commercial banks, primarily state-owned ones, Nadezhda Yermakova said: “We will in extremely limited amounts”. The support is meant to allow payments from operating accounts to flow while no support is provided for lending purposes, she explained.
        Nadezhda Yermakova also touched upon the exchange rate of the national currency. She reminded that the National Bank only acts to smooth out sharp changes of the currency exchange rate. The bank does not set the exchange rate but the market does. Nadezhda Yermakova said that the USD exchange rate will depend on how the economy will perform. “The higher the export will be, the lower the USD exchange rate will be,” said the NBRB head.
