According to preliminary data Belarus’ gold and foreign exchange reserves amounted to $8,126 million in IMF terms as of 1 October 2012, virtually no change in September 2012, representatives of the Information Office of the National Bank of Belarus told media.
In national terms the gold and foreign exchange reserves amounted to the equivalent of $8,829 million, up by $70.5 million in September 2012.
The volume of gold and foreign exchange reserves had been affected by the need to fully honor domestic and foreign liabilities of the National Bank and the government in foreign currency. The drain had been compensated for by an increase in prices for gold on international markets.
