An international month of school libraries is held in Belarus.

What books are Belarusian schoolchildren fond of? This question was addressed by our correspondent Nikita Naydenov to chief librarian of Minsk gymnasium № 50 Olga Labko. And that’s what she said:

“Our schoolchildren read books and read a lot. Sometimes up to 100 schoolchildren come to our library a day. Of course, most of all they read books envisgaed by the school curriculum. Our gymnasium specializes in physics and mathematics and this is why our students read a lot on these subjects.
Besides, they read phantasy, detective stories, Belarusian literature, as well as magazines aimed at different ages. Our teachers also come often to the library for methodical literature. In general, our library can offer anything students and teachers need. It is replenished regularly.
We also hold some events to attract children to the library. Many of schoolchildren bring their books to our library. If we speak about the most popular books I can mention the books by Mark Twain, Lewis Caroll, Astrid Lindgren. Among Belarusian authors I can mention Vasil Bykov”.
