A Yuri Gagarin bust made by Belarusian sculptor unveiled in Alexandria

A Yuri Gagarin bust made by Belarusian sculptor Ivan Misko was unveiled in the planetarium of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in the city of Alexandria, representatives of the Embassy of Belarus in Egypt said.

At the unveiling ceremony Ambassador of Belarus to Egypt Sergei Rachkov noted that People’s Artist of Belarus Ivan Misko is called a space sculptor because space exploration is one of the central themes in his art. The sculptor has created a number of sculptures of cosmonauts including Belarusian cosmonauts Piotr Klimuk and Vladimir Kovalyonok.

The initiative to immortalize the memory about the mankind’s first man in space in Alexandria was suggested by a local Egyptian businessman. Apart from the Belarusian ambassador attending the unveiling ceremony were also Alexandria Province Governor Tarek Al Mahdi, Ambassador of Russia to Egypt Sergei Kirpichenko, representatives of the diplomatic corps and the general public of Egypt.
