Belarus and Hungary intend to start cooperation in the sphere of nuclear energy. The relevant agreement was reached as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Hungary Aleksandr Ponomarev met with Janos Suli, Hungarian minister for the planning, construction and commissioning of new units of the Paks nuclear power plant, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA. The ambassador invited the Hungarian minister to visit Belarus for the sake of sharing the experience regarding the construction of the nuclear power plant and for holding negotiations on establishing cooperation in nuclear energy and other fields. The invitation was accepted.

The Paks nuclear power plant was built in the city of Paks in the late 1980s using a Soviet design. It generates a considerable share of electricity Hungary uses. The construction of additional power-generating units as part of the Paks nuclear power plant with Rosatom’s assistance is supposed to start soon.
