On the 26th of October HC Dinamo Minsk played their fourth match of the home series in the KHL regular season. On that day Dinamo hosted HC Barys Astana and celebrated an overtime victory with the sore 2:1.
The home side blew the game open with 18 minutes into the first period when Dinamo’s best striker Tim Stapleton redirected Joe Pavelski’s feed from the left board to put his team in the front.
Barys Astana responded on the power-play midway through the second period – the goal was scored by Andrei Gavrilin.
Missing their defenseman Lukas Krajicek who was sent off the ice for the remainder of the game for going too emotional after getting a minor, the hosts were thinking more of defense in the second half of the third period being outshot 6-11 by Barys. Pekka Rinne came up big blocking everything coming close.
A two-minute penalty on Janne Niskala late in the third took the air out of the building as that meant Dinamo Minsk were going into overtime shorthanded. The Minsk stood strong in a 3-on-4 action and took the game on the guests’ end. The clock was ticking the last seconds of the extra when Teemu Laine’s rocket from the blue line put a stop to the game.
The victory took the Belarusian team into the playoff zone.
Now with 20 games into the KHL regular season, with 25 points Dinamo Minsk occupy 6th place in the Tarasov Division and 8th in the Western Conference.
