New impulse for Belarus-IFC cooperation in 2013

The International Finance Corporation expects a new impulse in cooperation with Belarus in the financial year 2013. The statement was made by Mr Rufat Alimardanov, Head of the IFC Representative Office for Ukraine and Belarus. Since the IFC started operating in Belarus, about $340 million has been attracted into the country’s economy, with about 40% of the figure channeled into the financial sector while the rest of the money went into the real sector. “We have implemented a total of 36 projects. They are mainly long-term projects, for instance, lending, shareholding interest,” said the head of the office. Several other projects are in development phase. He said he hoped that in the financial year 2013 the IFC operation in Belarus would get a new impulse and cooperation will start developing even more vigorously.
The IFC is most interested in Belarus’ financial sector. The priorities also include the food industry, agribusiness, and the information and communication technologies. “There are no projects in the IT industry for now, but if there are interesting proposals, we are ready to consider them,” said the head of the regional representative office.
