Belarus President: Don’t mix freedom of speech with irresponsibility

Freedom of speech cannot be mixed with irresponsibility. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko made the statement at the press conference for representatives of Belarusian and foreign mass media.
The Belarusian head of state urged mass media to track events, analyze them, and even criticize the authorities only if they deserve it. “I wouldn’t like us to mix the freedom of speech with irresponsibility. Don’t encourage ignorance. Treat your readers, watchers, and listeners with respect,” urged Alexander Lukashenko.
The President remarked that he was ready to honestly, sincerely, and in detail answer all the questions of mass media representatives in order to spare them the need to seek comments of various “fortune tellers in a teacup”.
“You are here not only for the sake of bringing the information to the people. You claim to be the fourth estate and it is generally acknowledged already. So let’s discuss these problems today,” suggested the President.
