Sergei Loznitsa’s In the Fog based on the novel by Vasil Bykov will open the 19th Minsk International Film Festival Listapad on 2 November.
Sergei Loznitsa is well-known to the Minsk audience with his film My Joy that took the Grand Prix at Listapad 2010. His picture In the Fog premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in spring 2012 and received FIPRESCI award.
In the Fog is an international project involving Belarusfilm, MA.JA.DE Fiction (Germany), the film company "GP" (Russia), Rija Films Studio (Latvia), Lemming Film (Netherlands), ZDF/ARTE (Germany), European international fund Eurimages. Match Factory owns the right to global distribution of the movie.
Sergei Loznitsa calls the film a drama about a man trying to make a moral choice in immoral circumstances. In 1942, when Belarus is occupied by the Nazis, this rail worker is accused of collaborating with the enemy when he is set free by a German officer after he is captured. Two partisans go to his home to punish him, and the man has no way to prove his innocence apart from his moral principles and humanity.
The film has already received the Grand Prix of the 6th Andrei Tarkovsky International Film Festival “Zerkalo”, the Golden Apricot at the 9th International Film Festival in Yerevan, awards of the Odessa International Film Festival and the 21st Open CIS and Baltic Film Festival Kinoshok 2012.
