FMs of Belarus, Kyrgyzstan discuss bilateral cooperation

During an official visit to Kyrgyzstan, Belarusian Foreign Affairs Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov met with Kyrgyzstan’s Foreign Affairs Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev on 22 July, the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Affairs Ministry told BelTA.

The talks were open and substantive. The parties praised the high level of coordination between the foreign ministries and the Belarus-Kyrgyzstan intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation. The coordinating role of the ministries in advancing the entire bilateral agenda was emphasized.

The ministers discussed the schedule of upcoming contacts at the highest and high levels, paying special attention to preparations for the SCO summit at the level of heads of state, which Kyrgyzstan will host this year as the chair of the organization. Maxim Ryzhenkov spoke highly of the results of the visit of Belarusian Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin to Kyrgyzstan, which concluded recently, and invited Jeenbek Kulubaev to visit Belarus on an official trip.

The key topic of the negotiations was the intensification of trade and economic cooperation. The discussion focused on specific tools for increasing and balancing trade, deepening industrial cooperation, joint production of food products, as well as sharing Belarusian expertise in seed production and milk processing. Practical benchmarks for this work include the cooperation plan between the foreign ministries for 2025-2026 and two roadmaps for developing cooperation until 2027 and 2030. The ministers agreed to update the legal framework so that it corresponds to the current high level of bilateral relations.

The international agenda was examined in detail during the negotiations. The parties coordinated their approaches to joint activities within the UN, OSCE, CIS, EAEU, CSTO, and SCO. Maxim Ryzhenkov congratulated Kyrgyzstan on its election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027-2028. In turn, Jeenbek Kulubaev thanked Belarus for its support. The Belarusian side also expressed appreciation to its Kyrgyz partners for supporting the Belarusian-Russian initiative to develop the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st century, especially against the backdrop of eroding mutual trust on the European continent and the weakening of the principles of the Helsinki Final Act.

In the humanitarian sphere, Belarus confirmed its readiness to expand the training of Kyrgyz students, including in engineering specialties. The ministers noted the importance of reciprocal health-related trips for children as a channel for strengthening interpersonal contacts, and also expressed mutual interest in holding Culture Days.

“The negotiations once again confirmed the alignment of Minsk’s and Bishkek’s positions on the international agenda and the shared commitment to developing an equal partnership in the interests of building a just multipolar architecture of the world,” the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Affairs Ministry emphasized.

I recently learned my surname is not Polish, but Belarusian. I heard you on shortwave in the past and am so happy to listen online in English. We hear nothing about Belarus here in the US so I am so glad to learn about your country. Keep on broadcasting in English. I also joined the Hoererklub on Facebook as I can understand German. If you have information or a station pennant, I will very much appreciate it.
