Construction industry drives major share of Belarus’ GDP

The construction industry drives a substantial share of Belarus’ GDP, First Deputy Minister of Architecture and Construction Vladimir Naumovich said on the air of the Belarus One TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“Today, the construction industry drives around 6.6% of Belarus’ GDP, employing 138,000 people,” he said. “Behind these workers are their families and projects being built across the country, including social infrastructure, residential, and industrial construction.”

The construction industry has been firmly in the black since 2022, delivering strong results by the end of the previous five-year plan. “In 2025, the gross value added in the construction section stood at 108%,” Vladimir Naumovich said. “Moreover, the industry gained significant momentum in H1 2026, driving a 101.2% GDP growth rate. In January-July, it climbed to 102.2%, securing a 6.4% share of the economy.”

Commenting on residential construction, he noted that Belarus delivers around 4 million square meters of housing annually. “Private housing construction is the main driver, making up more than half of the total today. We are fully meeting the benchmarks set by Belarus’ national development standards, keeping the country at the forefront of the CIS in this metric,” the first deputy minister of architecture and construction added.

One of the key targets is to achieve 33 square meters of housing per capita by 2030, and Belarus is steadily moving toward this goal. According to Vladimir Naumovich, the current figure stands at 30.9 square meters.

“When it comes to the target of pegging the cost of state-subsidized housing to the average salary, we maintain parity, with the cost sitting at 80% of the average salary,” he emphasized.
