Belarus, Brazil seek closer agricultural cooperation

Belarus and Brazil seek closer agricultural cooperation, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Brazil Andrei Andreyev told BelTA.

During their meeting, the diplomat and Governor of Brest Oblast Piotr Parkhomchik discussed key areas of cooperation with Brazilian regions. “In accordance with the instructions of the head of state, work is underway to boost the entire spectrum of bilateral relations between Belarus and Brazil. We plan to hold political consultations in early autumn. As a next step, a meeting of the commission on trade and economic issues is being arranged. The priority is to achieve concrete results on the ground,” Andrei Andreyev emphasized.

The ambassador noted that the primary focus is on trade and economic cooperation in agriculture and mechanical engineering. For instance, Belarus is increasing fertilizer supplies to the country. Exports also includes other commodities that meet the needs of the Brazilian agricultural industry.

“For both countries, developing industrial cooperation and scientific interaction in agriculture is of paramount importance. Given the high share of the agricultural component in our national economies, along with our expertise and technologies, complementary and mutually beneficial cooperation has strong prospects. Concrete steps for its implementation were discussed with the leadership of Brest Oblast, taking into account the region’s industrial, agro-technical, and agricultural potential. For instance, a prototype of specialized Brazilian farm machinery was delivered to the fields of Brest Oblast. During testing, it showed good results and met our goals of improving tillage efficiency. We are focused on exploring purchasing options and mutually beneficial manufacturing cooperation,” the diplomat explained.

Socio-political and humanitarian cooperation is not left behind either. “A number of meetings have been held between the ministries of healthcare, with the participation of the Minsk Scientific and Practical Center for Surgery, Transplantology and Hematology. A dialogue is underway between higher education institutions. We must also note the increased dialogue between political and public associations, including the Belarusian party Belaya Rus,” Andrei Andreyev said.

According to him, relations between Belarus and Brazil are becoming stronger and more productive. “Bilateral dialogue is no longer limited solely to trade. It continues to transform into a partnership cemented by a shared understanding of a just world order and the complementary nature of our economies. Brazil is our friend and like-minded partner in Latin America. For its part, Belarus has been and remains a stable and reliable partner for Brazil,” the diplomat concluded.
