Kamenets Tower welcomes over 10,000 tourists in H1 2026

More than 10,000 tourists visited Kamenets Tower, a branch of the Brest Oblast Local History Museum, in H1 2026, the cultural institution told BelTA.

The main landmark of Kamenets, which will celebrate its 750th anniversary this July, remains highly popular with tourists. In 2025, the site drew over 27,000 visitors, and it has already welcomed more than 10,000 in January-June 2026. While the majority of tourists come from all across Belarus, Kamenets also greets guests from Russia and further abroad. Just recently, for instance, the history of the ancient tower captured the interest of a traveler from the Netherlands.

“It is a unique 13th-century monument. This defensive tower was built on the steep left bank of the Lesnaya River between 1276 and 1288 on the orders of the Volhynia Prince Vladimir Vasilkovich. Today, the tower houses a museum. Spanning five levels, the exhibition primarily focuses on the history of Kamenets and the tower from the 13th to the 16th centuries,” researcher Olga Gritsuk said.

Visitors are drawn to the cutaway models of Kamenets and the tower, which showcase life inside the defensive structure during the Middle Ages. The rooftop observation deck is a popular feature among tourists, offering panoramic views of the town and its surroundings. During a tour, visitors can ascend to the top via an original internal staircase that has been preserved since the 13th century, climbing 22 stone steps.

The Kamenets Tower stands at 29.4 meters tall with walls 2.5 meters thick. “The tower’s walls are 90% preserved, which is exactly what makes it so unique. Restorers periodically coat the battlements and walls with a special protective compound,” the researcher explained.

Kamenets will celebrate its anniversary from 22 to 26 July. The program features historical reenactments, an international philatelic exhibition, a festival of choreographic and vocal arts, an all-star football match, numerous concerts, exhibitions, a projection show, and a fireworks display. The organizers have also prepared several surprises, including the unveiling of a new art installation near the Kamenets Tower.
