Lukashenko: Ukraine has nothing to fear from Belarus

Ukraine has absolutely nothing to fear from Belarus, but this topic is being stoked due to certain political ambitions, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said in an interview with the Al Arabiya television channel, BelTA has learned.

Responding to the interviewer’s question about whether Ukraine has anything to fear from Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “Absolutely nothing. Absolutely. And they know this. The military know it. The people, the citizens of Ukraine know it. But for some political ambitions, this topic is being stoked.”

The president noted that the media had somewhat whipped up this topic. “And Zelensky played along. He started making statements against Belarus. At first, I wondered why he needed that. Because he understands, and his military report to him, I know this for sure, that there is no danger from Belarus. He understands that. But nevertheless, he makes these statements,” the head of state said.

He believes that the West is pushing Vladimir Zelensky to make such statements. Previously, there were no discussions in Ukraine about a possible attack from the Belarusian direction. It was the Europeans who expressed the most concern about this issue. “It seems to me that Western countries pressured Zelensky: ‘Why are you silent? We’re speaking for you, but you’re staying quiet.’ So he made these clumsy, completely unnecessary statements,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
