Belarus, Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod Oblast review manufacturing, transport cooperation projects

Belarusian Ambassador to Russia Yuri Seliverstov visited Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod Oblast on May 28, the press service of the Belarusian diplomatic mission told BelTA.

The key point of the program was negotiations with Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Governor Gleb Nikitin. Belarus and the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast maintain close and multifaceted cooperation, therefore the discussions focused on the implementation of agreements reached at various levels, progress on joint projects and promising areas for future growth.

The sides discussed the involvement of Belarusian organizations in the construction of social infrastructure facilities in the region, as well as supplies of construction materials, agricultural, utility, cargo and road-construction equipment. The ambassador proposed expanding the range of supplies to include fire trucks. Special attention was also paid to Belarus’ participation in the modernization of the region’s elevator infrastructure and prospects for partially localizing the production of Nizhny Novgorod shipbuilding enterprises in Belarus. The sides also touched upon cooperation in youth policy and patriotic education. They reviewed the schedule of upcoming joint events and possible dates for the next meeting of the Belarus-Nizhny Novgorod Business Cooperation Council.

Yuri Seliverstov and Gleb Nikitin exchanged views on the development prospects of the joint venture Nizhecotrans, utilization of its production capacities, diversification of manufactured products and sales markets, and the effectiveness of cooperation with Belarusian BKM Holding.

Before the meeting, the ambassador visited the joint venture located in the town of Vorsma. Since 2022, trams and electric buses under the MiNiN brand, based on Belarusian BKM Holding vehicles, have been assembled there. More than 200 vehicles have already been produced, and Nizhny Novgorod’s demand for electric transport modernization is expected to be fully met by summer.

During a tour of the production facilities with company management, the ambassador discussed further development plans, opportunities to expand the product range, including through additional vehicle types, deeper localization of production, the effectiveness of regional support measures, and sales issues, including supplies to other Russian regions.

Yuri Seliverstov held meetings with executives of several dealers of Belarusian-made products: Amkodor-Spamash, which supplies municipal and road-construction equipment from the Amkodor holding to the region; Krasny Borets-Rus, which distributes Belarusian robotic machine tools and manipulators; and the Nizhny Novgorod trading house Belshina.
