Krutoi: National Bank, government have always been opponents, but must work together

The National Bank of Belarus and the government have always been opponents, but they must work together, Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoi told Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“The National Bank and the government have always been opponents. But at the recent report [the government’s report to the head of state for 2025], the president said that they should work together. After all, monetary policy and economic policy have always gone hand in hand, so they must interact. This is stipulated in all documents. They are jointly responsible for economic growth and price control,” Dmitry Krutoi said.

Currently, according to the head of the Belarus President Administration, there is a very businesslike and constructive interaction between the National Bank and the government. “Especially in the investment sector, which, in my personal opinion, is key. We must not slow down the pace of implementation of our investment projects. The issue of resources is paramount today,” he emphasized.

On 10 March Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko heard a report on the current activities of the National Bank in the context of the country’s economic development objectives. “We must not lose the National Bank; we need them to help us, especially in economics and finance during these challenging times. I want to reiterate a warning that we should have no friction here. The resolution of issues rests with us. We will resolve everything together, everyone understands that perfectly well. I am for healthy competition - who can better and more effectively propose a topic or resolve a particular issue, in addition to their core responsibilities,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
