The Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in the Kingdom of Belgium together with the Russian embassy has organized a thematic expert event titled as “Eurasian security: Challenges and prospects”, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
More than 80 guests took part in the discussion, including representatives of the diplomatic corps, experts and analysts from Africa, the Middle East, Europe, Latin America, and Southeast Asia as well as members of the European Parliament.
Participants of the event were shown a video compilation of key speeches from the 3rd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security. The compilation reflected the approaches to Eurasian security of the president of the Republic of Belarus, the ministers of foreign affairs of Russia and Hungary, representatives of China, India, Iran, and Myanmar as well as top officials of the international forum Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
In addition, an analytical presentation was organized on the growing potential of the BRICS countries and the Global Majority in defining the contours of the emerging multipolar world.
Chargé d'Affaires of the Republic of Belarus in Belgium Sergei Panasyuk and Ambassador of Russia to Belgium Denis Gonchar made speeches during the event. Yevgeny Preigerman, Head of the Minsk Dialogue Council on International Relations, and Ivan Timofeev, Director General of the Russian International Affairs Council, addressed participants of the event via videoconference calls. Participants of the event were presented with a joint Belarusian-Russian conceptual vision of the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century as well as a topical article by Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov.
In his speech Sergei Panasyuk gave a comprehensive assessment of the current international situation. He noted that unilateral actions by individual Western states undermine the principle of equal and indivisible security and create additional risks for continental stability. He stressed that against the backdrop of growing challenges Belarus had initiated a broad discussion of the concept of the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity as an updated basis for working out a comprehensive inclusive security architecture in Eurasia.
During the discussion the key principles of the charter were presented in detail: recognition of multipolarity as an objective global reality; the central role of the Eurasian continent in the emerging international order; respect for cultural and civilizational diversity; strengthening the role of the United Nations Organization as the main universal mechanism for international interaction; the formation of a new pan-continental architecture of cooperation in the fields of security, economy, and culture. The discussion also touched upon the development of synergies between Eurasian integration associations (including the Eurasian Economic Union, the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, the Union State of Belarus and Russia); the prevention of external interference in regional processes.
The Belarusian diplomat expressed hope for an active discussion by all parties, including Western countries, about the problem of Eurasian security in various multilateral and bilateral formats.
The event attracted the interest of the foreign audience and became a platform for a substantive and engaged exchange of opinions about the prospects for strengthening security and integration processes in the Eurasian space.
