Belarus’ PM: Goals of new five-year social and economic plan must be attainable

The goals and objectives outlined in the country's five-year program for social and economic development must be attainable, Belarusian Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin told the media following a meeting of the Presidium of the Belarusian People's Congress on 25 November, where he reported as chairman of the organizing committee of the next session of the Belarusian People’s Congress, BelTA has learned.

One of the key agenda items for the session, scheduled for 18-19 December, will be the approval of the country’s five-year social and economic development program. This document is currently being actively discussed, including with the delegates of the Belarusian People’s Congress. The prime minister suggested that no fundamental changes are expected as a result of these discussions, as the document has been prepared meticulously, including based on large-scale research conducted by the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Research (BISR).

“We see the issues that concern our people,” the head of government noted.

“The most important thing is that all our goals and objectives (as defined in this program) are attainable. The prime minister has to take the podium every year and report on the progress of the social and economic development program. Of course, we would like to see the majority of our targets and parameters fulfilled. These are not just numbers. Numbers for the sake of numbers are of no use to anyone. We are solving people’s concrete problems. We would like, over the next five years, to be able to resolve many of the accumulated issues that concern our citizens, if not 100%, then, let’s say, a significant portion of them,” Aleksandr Turchin emphasized.
