MP names priorities of Belarus’ 2026 development forecast

Member of the Standing Committee for Legislation and State Administration of the Council of the Republic Igor Sergeyev outlined the focus of Belarus’ 2026 development forecast in comments to a BelTA correspondent. His remarks followed the signing of Presidential Decree No. 385, which approved the country’s key development forecast for 2026.

The decree, dated 3 November 2025, sets the nation’s economic priorities for the coming year. Igor Sergeyev noted that the strategy rests on three pillars: “The primary focus is on investment, exports, and the search for new markets. The well-being of the country’s population is built on these three key areas. Maintaining a balance between growth and stability is much more difficult in the face of external challenges.”

To achieve these goals, a socio-economic development plan will be approved to serve as a guide, which will also require the adoption of new laws and regulations.

He detailed the legislative needs for each priority: “To ensure investment growth of 3.1%, it will be necessary to focus on improving investment legislation: certain procedures must be simplified, incentives and guarantees must be provided for investors. Regarding exports, it is important to support laws that stimulate foreign economic activity and export diversification. Another key objective is keeping inflation under 7%. It is essential to work effectively to achieve price stability,” he stated.

Thanks to a consistent, and perhaps temporarily tight, monetary and budgetary policy, the Republic of Belarus has achieved significant results in the financial sector, and this, in combination with other monetary methods of economic management, made it possible to create favorable conditions for economic activity, Igor Sergeyev noted.

“As a result, the country’s GDP has grown, not declined, as it did in the 1990s. We have sustained positive growth in both industrial production and agriculture, and, along with this, real growth in household incomes,” he emphasized. In conclusion, Igor Sergeyev affirmed: “Decree No. 385 is absolutely essential for our country’s economic growth in the current geopolitical environment.”
