Belarus, Ghana to set up joint trade commission

Belarus has proposed to Ghana to set up an intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation during a meeting between Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov and Ghanaian Minister of Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa in New York, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the talks, the ministers focused on trade development, including supplies of Belarusian machinery and equipment to Ghana, the establishment of service and assembly facilities, and the access of Ghanaian goods to the markets of Belarus and the Eurasian Economic Union.

“In order to boost the bilateral trade and economic potential, the Belarusian side proposed establishing an intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, with the parties agreeing to convene its first session in the near future, alongside inter-ministerial consultations at the deputy minister level,” the press service said.

Belarus confirmed its interest in coordinating positions with Ghana on international platforms, including the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement, and invited the Ghanaian side to participate in a number of Belarusian initiatives.

The Belarusian foreign minister and the Ghanaian foreign minister also exchanged invitations to pay mutual visits.

On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Maxim Ryzhenkov also met with Ugandan Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeje Abubaker Odongo. The parties noted the intensification of bilateral ties after the visit of the Belarusian prime minister to Kampala in February 2025.

“The discussion focused on cooperation areas, including implementing the memorandum on food security, advancing agricultural mechanization, supplying Belarusian machinery and equipment, training Ugandan specialists in Belarus, and promoting Ugandan goods in the Belarusian and Eurasian markets. The parties agreed to continue the work of the joint commission on trade and economic cooperation, and to exchange visits, including by business representatives,” the press service said.
