Belarus views the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as a platform for bolstering its international standing, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Maksim Ryzhenkov said in a commentary to the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA reports.
“For us, this is fundamentally a coalition of like-minded partners. Our multifaceted cooperation spans numerous sectors –from agriculture and industry to public associations and political parties – and is dedicated to developing comprehensive solutions with a global impact. This platform is vital for strengthening our international positioning, allowing us to speak with a unified voice. As evidenced by the final political declaration [from the SCO summit in Tianjin], Belarus’ interests were fully respected, and several of our key political ideas were successfully advanced,” the minister said.
Maksim Ryzhenkov stressed that while proposals from Belarus alone might be overlooked internationally, the same initiatives gain significant political weight when included in joint statements backed by major powers like China, India, and Russia.
“Furthermore, the summit served as a vital platform for bilateral engagement. The president’s attendance was highly productive; beyond his address to the SCO, he conducted a series of crucial meetings with leaders from nearly every attending nation to advance our economic and financial partnerships,” added Maksim Ryzhenkov.
