Chinese embassy in Belarus presents medals to five veterans to mark Victory’s 80th anniversary

Employees of the Chinese Embassy in Belarus presented commemorative Chinese medals to five Belarusian veterans in honor of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the war of China’s resistance against Japanese invaders, BelTA learned from the Chinese embassy in Minsk.

The awards were presented in Gomel Oblast, Minsk Oblast, and in Minsk to four veterans: Aleksandr Podlipsky, Mikhail Veselko, Filipp Karlov, and Fyodor Feshchenko. In addition to the medals and souvenirs commemorating the 80th anniversary of victory, they also received letters of appreciation from the embassy.

Earlier, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Zhang Wenchuan presented a commemorative medal to veteran Valery Rayevsky (105 years old), who contributed to the war of resistance against Japanese invaders. The medal was received by his granddaughter Natalya.

The ambassador noted that the peoples of the two countries will never forget the merits of all veterans who made outstanding contributions to the victory in the global anti-fascist war. During a state visit to Belarus in 2015, President Xi Jinping presented medals in honor of the 70th anniversary of the victory in the war of resistance against Japanese invaders to 15 Belarusian veterans, including Valery Rayevsky.

Natalya shared her grandfather's participation in combat operations in northeastern China during World War II. She emphasized that her grandfather treasures the medal presented by the Chinese leader and always wears it at important events. She expressed sincere gratitude to China for the award, which not only recognizes her grandfather's personal contribution but also symbolizes the friendship between Belarus and China.
