Belarus to increase agricultural exports to Tajikistan

Belarus plans to expand agricultural exports to Tajikistan, the press service of the Agriculture and Food Ministry told BelTA following a meeting between Minister Yuri Gorlov and Belarusian Ambassador to Tajikistan Viktor Denisenko.

The parties discussed preparations for the 18th meeting of the Belarus-Tajikistan Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation that will be held in Dushanbe in September 2025. Particular attention was paid to boosting agricultural exports and organizing an upcoming visit of a Belarusian delegation to Tajikistan.

Yuri Gorlov pointed to significant growth in bilateral trade in 2024, with agricultural exports increasing by 2.3 times. Traditional export items include powdered milk, beef, canned meat, cattle, eggs, and meat-and-bone meal. Imports from Tajikistan primarily consist of dried fruit, cotton yarn, fabrics, and fiber.

Cooperation has expanded with Tajikistan’s Agency for the Provision of Special Property under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. Twenty contracts have been signed between Belarusian businesses and the agency, including contracts to supply new products such as canned fish and chilled beef.

Belplemzhivobiedinenie continues its cooperation with Tajikistan in supplying pedigree cattle and small ruminants, including meat breeds. Nearly 1,400 head of livestock were delivered in January-July 2025. Nine Belarusian veterinary drugs are registered in Tajikistan, with regular shipments under existing agreements.

Education remains a key area of bilateral cooperation. Eleven Tajik students are currently enrolled in agricultural universities under the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

In 2024, Belarus became one of Tajikistan’s top ten trading partners, marking a historic high in bilateral trade. The participants of the meeting emphasized the need to step up efforts to further expand trade and economic cooperation, as increased trade is aligned with both nations’ strategic interests.
