Belarus, Kenya to intensify comprehensive dialogue

Belarus and Kenya will step up bilateral interaction across multiple areas, including inter-parliamentary contacts. This matter was discussed by Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Sergei Aleinik and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kenya to the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus (concurrently) Peter Mutuku Mathuki on 17 June, BelTA has learned.
 
The Belarus-Kenya cooperation in trade, economy and humanitarian field, interaction on international platforms were in the focus of the meeting. Particular emphasis was placed on intensifying inter-parliamentary dialogue between the upper houses of the parliaments of Belarus and Kenya, as well as inter-regional cooperation.
 
Sergei Aleinik remarked: “Belarus attaches great importance to cooperation with foreign partners. Belarus is ready to develop mutually beneficial and useful contacts with the Senate of the Republic of Kenya.”
 
The parties emphasized the importance of holding a number of planned visits.
 
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Kenya were established on 17 November 1993. President of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko met with President of the Republic of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta at the first Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing in 2017. At the end of 2023, the Belarusian head of state held constructive and friendly talks with Kenyan President William Ruto in Nairobi. At a meeting with the delegation of the Pan-African Parliament in January 2025, Aleksandr Lukashenko confirmed the invitation to the president of Kenya to make an official visit to Belarus at any convenient time.
 
This year, for the first time, a delegation from Kenya took part in the international agricultural exhibition Belagro 2025 in Minsk. This demonstrated Kenya's interest in expanding comprehensive cooperation with Belarus.
