Belarus to introduce 20-25 new AI standards in 2026

Belarus will introduce 20-25 new standards in artificial intelligence by the end of the year, First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Standardization of Belarus (Gosstandart) Aleksandr Burak told BelTA.

He noted that AI-related work is actively underway within Gosstandart, and 20-25 new standards will be adopted by year’s end. International experience and the expertise of Russian colleagues are being taken into account. “Artificial intelligence offers strong technical solutions, and we must keep pace. Such sectors as healthcare, education, energy, transport, agriculture, tourism and others expect these solutions from us, and timely implementation requires standardization,” Aleksandr Burak said.

Belarusian specialists analyzed the scope of work of the ISO technical committee on AI standardization, which includes participation from more than 80 countries.

“At present, 42 standards are already ready for use, 49 international standards are under development, and by 2030 the regulatory and technical framework will include around 100 documents. This serves as technical guidance for our experts, and we are already working in this direction. Belarus is represented in observer status by the company Giprosvyaz,” the first deputy chairman noted.

On the CIS interstate platform, Belarus is an active participant in the interstate technical committee 566 ‘Artificial Intelligence’. In practice, terminology and definitions have already been standardized. Work is underway on AI system quality assessment and on a standard for AI life-cycle processes based on an international document that, according to Aleksandr Burak, receives significant attention. He also highlighted the importance of the national technical committee BY 41 ‘Digital Development and Communications’.
