Mitskevich weighs in role of AI, digital tech in Belarusian People’s Congress’s decisions

The strategic vision of the Belarusian People’s Congress includes AI, digital technologies, Chairman of the Belarusian National Union of Lawyers, Head of the Secretariat of the Belarusian People’s Congress Valery Mitskevich told the media, BelTA has learned.


On 21-22 May, the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno played host to the 11th international conference Digital Technologies and Artificial Intelligence in Ensuring the Information and Political Security of the State: Discourses, Concepts and Practice dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Belarusian People's Congress.

The head of the Secretariat of the Belarusian People's Congress noted that the Congress acquired constitutional status following the referendum. “Today the Congress adopts strategic, program documents and decisions that are binding. The Belarusian People's Congress handles the most important personnel matters - it elects judges of the Supreme and Constitutional Courts and members of the Central Election Commission,” Valery Mitskevich said.
 
When asked about whether the topics of technologies and artificial intelligence are reflected in the decisions of the Belarusian People’s Congress, Valery Mitskevich noted: “The Belarusian People’s Congress has now adopted the Socio-Economic Development Program until 2030. Accordingly, the program documents contain guidelines and indicators based, among other things, on our development forecasts. Digitalization, artificial intelligence and achievements in this field are taken into account in all program documents, including the National Security Concept,” Valery Mitskevich said.
 
The event brought together more than 230 scholars from different countries. The two-day program includes plenary and thematic sessions, evening sessions, roundtables, and presentations. The program focused on the impact of digitalization on state development, digital technologies and artificial intelligence in state governance, the role of the Belarusian People’s Congress in ensuring the information and political security of the state in the context of digital transformation and the challenges and threats of using AI technologies in military-political security. Simultaneously, discussions as part of the conference highlighted a wide range of political issues: from political philosophy and psychology to comparative political science, world politics and partology.
