Volfovich voices proposals to strengthen SCO counterterrorism measures at Bishkek meeting

A delegation of the State Secretariat of the Security Council of Belarus headed by State Secretary Aleksandr Volfovich took part in the 21st meeting of the Secretaries of the Security Councils of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation member states held in Bishkek, the Security Council’s State Secretariat told BelTA.

During the event, the parties reviewed the security and stability situation within the SCO area, identified further directions for developing cooperation and improving mechanisms for interaction among member states in countering terrorism, separatism and extremism, illegal trafficking of weapons and drugs, human trafficking, illegal migration, and other forms of transnational organized crime. They also stressed the need to coordinate efforts to ensure security in information and communication technologies.

The head of the Belarusian delegation drew colleagues’ attention to the rapid and negative developments in the global situation and the need to build a new system of international and regional security. In this context, the Belarusian delegation presented a number of proposals aimed at improving measures to combat international terrorism, extremism and separatism, as well as developing joint solutions to strengthen cooperation in international information security.

On the sidelines of the forum, Aleksandr Volfovich held several meetings with his counterparts from SCO countries. They discussed the state of bilateral cooperation between the security council offices, promising areas of interaction between the special services and law enforcement agencies of the member states.
