The second meeting of special representatives of the parties to the Belarus-Russia Treaty on Security Guarantees within the framework of the Union State of Belarus and Russia took place in Minsk on 16-17 March, BelTA has learned.
According to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Sekreta and Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Grushko reviewed the situation in the field of security at the borders of the Union State of Belarus and Russia in the context of the ongoing militarization of the European Union and NATO member states. They discussed practical aspects of implementing the provisions of the Union State Security Concept in the context of fulfilling the Treaty on Security Guarantees. Igor Sekreta and Alexander Grushko exchanged opinions about matters concerning the counteraction of illegal restrictive measures of economic and financial nature.
Participants of the meeting confirmed that Belarus’ and Russia’s approaches to topical challenges and threats to security of the Union State, to ways of counteracting and fighting against them coincide. The parties emphasized the significance of the treaty as a reliable foundation for stepping up Belarus-Russia cooperation for the sake of ensuring the efficient protection of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.
An agreement was reached to continue interaction for the sake of implementing the treaty’s provisions and to hold the next meeting in Moscow in autumn 2026.
