CEC head vows to announce final election results by the weekend

The final results of the parliamentary elections in Belarus will be made by the weekend, Chairperson of the central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina told media.
“The current results are preliminary as precinct election commissions are yet to meet today to discuss the figures on every constituency. The CEC will receive the documents on Wednesday. I hope we will be able to summarize all this by weekend,” the CEC head said.
According to Lidia Yermoshina, the elections were validated in every region of the country. A full-fledged parliament of 109 members has been elected in Belarus. Only one constituency has failed to elect an MP. It is the Novobelitsky election constituency in Gomel Oblast. Lidia Yermoshina said:

“The elections in the constituency are valid but there was no alternative to the single candidate. Since an absolute majority of the voters has not voted for the candidate, a rerun election will be arranged. Now it is hard to say when they will take place. The law doesn’t oblige to hold them in three-month term if an MP hasn’t been elected. This is why the elections in this constituency will likely be combined with the next election campaign. The nearest one is the election of deputies of local councils”.

“In general, the election campaign can be viewed as calm, non-contentious and quite successful,” the CEC Chairperson added.
Let us remind you that 74.3% of the registered voters took part in the parliamentary elections in Belarus.
