Belarus, Cambodia expand cooperation in transport sector

Belarus and Cambodia are expanding cooperation in the transport sector, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Transport and Communications Ministry.

Belarusian Transport and Communications Minister Aleksei Lyakhnovich met with Minister of Public Works and Transport of the Kingdom of Cambodia Peng Ponea on the sidelines of the Global Sustainable Transport Forum in Beijing. The sides discussed prospects for cooperation in civil aviation, road transport and road construction.

Peng Ponea particularly emphasized Cambodia’s interest in the construction of highways and bridges. “We have already completed the laying of a high-speed highway connecting the capital with a seaport. The next stage will be a large-scale project for an expressway from Phnom Penh to the border with Vietnam. A third priority route will connect the capital with Thailand,” he said.

For his part, Aleksei Lyakhnovich confirmed Belarus’ readiness to provide in-depth expertise in road design and maintenance. “Belarus holds a leading place among the CIS countries in terms of road density, and we are now focused on their modernization. Since 2014, the country has been introducing the technology of laying cement concrete pavements, which are distinguished by increased strength and durability. We are ready for full-scale partnership: from the exchange of experience and the transfer of technologies to the joint maintenance of the road network and the introduction of solutions to extend the intervals between repairs,” he emphasized.
