Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov met with Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi in Kyrgyzstan on the sidelines of the upcoming meeting of the Council of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“The talks confirmed that Belarus and China share identical approaches to all major issues on the global agenda. Maxim Ryzhenkov reaffirmed Belarus’ unwavering commitment to the all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership with China,” the ministry said.
The ministers highlighted the close personal friendship and mutual trust between Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Chinese President Xi Jinping. “The regular meetings between the two leaders clearly demonstrate the mutual support and genuinely brotherly nature of relations between the two countries. Their sincere interaction remains the main driving force behind the development of the bilateral ties,” the ministry said.
The two sides also reaffirmed their mutual support for each other’s state sovereignty, territorial integrity and core interests, and agreed to cooperate actively in implementing China’s global initiatives.
The ministers coordinated approaches to upcoming high-level contacts, discussed further upgrading bilateral relations and reviewed prospects for cooperation within the SCO.
“The two ministers gave a positive assessment of the current momentum in bilateral trade, economic and investment cooperation, as reflected by the nearly 30% increase in Belarus-China trade turnover. They welcomed the successful recent Belarus-China Forum of Regions, which has become an important platform for strengthening direct interregional and business ties,” the ministry said.
The Belarusian side congratulated China on the successful signing of the agreement establishing the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO), with Belarus among its founding members. Wang Yi thanked Belarus for supporting the initiative.
The two sides agreed to hold commemorative events in 2027 to mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Belarus and China.
The ministers also discussed practical issues related to expanding and enhancing Belarus’ diplomatic presence in China.
Maxim Ryzhenkov invited his Chinese counterpart to pay an official visit to Belarus. Wang Yi accepted the invitation with gratitude.
During the meeting, the ministers signed a consultation plan between the foreign ministries of Belarus and China for 2026-2027, aimed at making bilateral cooperation more systematic and well-coordinated.
Following the talks, Maxim Ryzhenkov gave an interview to Chinese television channel CGTN.
