Belarus welcomes Lithuania’s willingness to re-establish dialogue with Minsk

The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the statement by Lithuania’s foreign minister that he dreams of having excellent relations with Belarus, Belarus’ MFA spokesperson Ruslan Varankov told media.

“We welcome such a statement. Belarus has always advocated good-neighbourly and mutually beneficial relations with Lithuania and shares the desire to normalize them. For our part, we reaffirm our full readiness for constructive dialogue,” Ruslan Varankov said.

He also noted that earlier media reports indicated that Lithuania’s foreign ministry had appointed a representative to liaise with Minsk. “We expect communication through this channel,” the spokesperson emphasized. “We hope that through joint efforts we will be able to bring bilateral relations to the level mentioned by Mr. Budrys [Lithuanian Foreign Affairs Minister Kęstutis Budrys].”

As it was previously reported, Kęstutis Budrys told the ONT channel on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum that he dreams of re-establishing relations with Belarus.

“I want to have well-established contacts with Belarus. This is my dream, truly. Without unnecessary threats. I very much hope that one day we will have excellent relations after we resolve all issues,” the minister said.

When asked whether he is ready to normalize relations, Kęstutis Budrys replied: “I dream of it!”
