Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Egypt and concurrently to Algeria Yevgeny Sobolevsky visited Algeria to implement the agreements reached during the visit of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to the country in December 2025, the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.
The ambassador met with Yacine El-Mahdi Oualid, Algeria’s Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries and co-chair of the Belarus-Algeria commission on trade, economic, scientific, and technical cooperation.
The parties discussed preparations for the upcoming commission meeting and the organization of business events on its sidelines. They noted the progress achieved in agricultural cooperation. The readiness to continue work on joint projects in food security was emphasized. In addition, interest was reaffirmed in expanding the range of Belarusian products supplied to Algeria, including veterinary medicines and animal feed.
At a meeting with Algeria’s Industry Minister Yahia Bachir, the parties praised the strong momentum in contacts between industrial enterprises of the two countries and discussed issues related to the implementation of planned projects.
During negotiations with Algeria’s State Minister, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines Mohamed Arkab, concrete steps were outlined to intensify cooperation in the mining and oil and gas sectors.
The Belarusian diplomat also met with Said Meziane, Director General for cooperation with Europe at the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The parties reviewed the schedule of bilateral events for the near future. They discussed the implementation of the full range of agreements reached during the high-level visit in December 2025, with a focus on trade and economic cooperation. The parties emphasized the promising prospects for developing humanitarian cooperation.
