An estimated 14.61% of voters turned out on the first two days of early voting ahead of the 25 February parliamentary elections in Belarus, BelTA learned from the Central Election Commission of Belarus.
A total of 14.85% of ballots were cast in Brest Oblast, with 14.25% cast in Vitebsk Oblast. Turnout made up 17.55% in Gomel Oblast, 10.57% in Grodno Oblast, 14.76% in Minsk Oblast, 15.61% in Mogilev Oblast, and 13.80% in Minsk.
“In the first two days of early voting in the local and parliamentary elections in Belarus, voters demonstrated a fairly high turnout. The youth showed great activity. High interest of Belarusians to the election campaign in the new format is also noted by national observers,” CEC Chairman Igor Karpenko said.
The CEC said that a very common, but still interesting case took place at the polling station in Mogilev, where a young man, who was to turn 18 only the following day, addressed the election commission saying that he was eager to vote ahead of his birthday. The members of the election commission appreciated such eagerness, but invited the young man to come to the polling station to vote as soon as he comes of age.
