Belarus and Russia intend to step up efforts to develop the united regional air defense system. The statement was made by Belarusian Defense Minister, Lieutenant-General Yuri Zhadobin after the session of the CIS Defense Ministers Council in Moscow.The Minister underlined that Belarus and Russia are ahead of the other CIS states in creating the united regional air defense system. A common control center has been created, information is being exchanged, and regular exercises are arranged. “We have put together a plan for the year 2013 and consequent years for the sake of joint training and the improvement of operational readiness routines, for installing data transmission equipment that has to be compatible,” said Yuri Zhadobin.
The Belarusian Defense Minister reminded that a regular joint training of the on-duty forces of the Belarus-Russia united regional air defense system took place a while ago. It involved seven Russian aircraft and five aircraft representing Belarus. A total of 36 radio warfare units were engaged in the exercise.
